Port Marlborough NZ Ltd. Marine Services pilots are trained in and practice Bridge Resource Management principles and follow standard operating procedures.
After boarding the pilot will develop a pilotage passage plan in consultation with the bridge team.
The following information represents commonly used routes and waypoints in Marlborough waters. Ship masters should use these as the basis for passage planning prior to pilot boarding.
Any variation from these waypoints will be noted by your pilot during the master pilot exchange and passage planning briefing.
Two tugs are available and used for the arrival of ships greater than 20,000 GRT.
Maungatea is a 28T bollard pull tractor tug and
Monowai is a 28T bollard pull voith tug, both owned by Port Marlborough NZ Ltd.
Levanter and
Rossco are owned and operated by Nautilus Pacific Maritime Contractors Ltd. A Nautilus Pacific tug may be used during the berthing of a ship in the event one of the Port Marlborough tugs is not available.
Only one tug,
Maungatea or
Monowai is used on departures.
